Good morning sports fans! Last night, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman gave his 2025 State of the County address, where he spoke to the key achievements and his future plans for the county. The address began with Blakeman thanking the notable figures, including Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and Nassau County District Attorney Ann Donnelly for their contributions to our community.
Blakeman proudly announced that Nassau County is once again recognized as the safest county to live in America, a status supported by experts (Voted by The US News and World Report). Over the past three years, the county has strengthened its law enforcement by hiring over 300 police and corrections officers, with promises to continue growing the force. He emphasized, "We are funding our police, not defunding, here in Nassau County."
For the fourth consecutive year, Blakeman declared that Nassau County is not a sanctuary county. He reaffirmed his collaboration with ICE to remove or incarcerate individuals committing crimes while in the country illegally. Additionally, he vowed to combat the influx of fentanyl from Mexico and China into local neighborhoods.
Blakeman spoke to the fact that he was the one to announce the end of the mask mandates at the beginning of the end of the covid pandemic and now most recently has introduced a new law prohibiting criminals and anti-Semites from wearing masks to intimidate Nassau County residents. He also promised to continue the popular free concert series, which featured many A-list superstar artists and most notably an insane crowd at the Steve Aoki performance at Eisenhower Park.
Bruce talked a little healthcare... and he acknowledged that Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) has not received funding since 2023 and pledged to rectify this issue. He spoke about the importance of NUMC to the community.
The county's successful hosting of the World Cup Cricket Tournament at Eisenhower Park brought significant economic activity, with over 156,000 attendees and 1.2 billion viewers worldwide. Despite safety concerns, the event concluded without incidents, a testament to the efforts of local police and volunteers.
Blakeman has been determined to keep women safe in sports, passing legislation that trans people would not be able to compete in women's sports. Last night he doubled down and reiterated his stance on sports participation, emphasizing that "in Nassau County, boys play with boys and girls play with girls."
He praised the county's vibrant community, stating, "We have the beaches, the restaurants, the stores, the cultural activities, and the people that make this such a great place to do business and live."
He concluded his address as he concludes most of his speeches... "God bless Nassau County and God bless America." and the crowd goes wild!!!
